What are the advantages and disadvantages of different types of cooling? What do you need to take care of as a device user to take full advantage of a chosen solution? Finally, how do you choose the best cooling for your business requirements? These and other questions arise primarily for people who are just looking for the right equipment for a shop or restaurant. So if you want to choose well, be sure to read this text.
There are 2 types of cooling used in commercial refrigeration: static and dynamic. It is the application of appropriate air circulation that ensures that the temperature is maintained at the desired level. Contrary to appearances, the choice is not always obvious. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages that are worth knowing before buying.
Quiet and simple static cooling
In the case of static cooling, the air moves thanks to gravity. Warm air, which is thinner than cold air (and therefore lighter), rises to the top.
The appropriate temperature is ensured by an evaporator located inside the refrigerating chamber.
It is the cheapest and simplest system, but it has its limitations. Its biggest disadvantage is the uneven temperature distribution in the chamber of the device. The lower shelves will always be colder than the ones at the top, and the difference between them can be up to several degrees Celsius.
Devices with static cooling are suitable for storing products that are less sensitive to temperature fluctuations. Go ahead and choose them when you know that the chamber door will not be opened often, thanks to which you will be able to maintain the required parameters.
When to choose gravity cooling and when to look for a different solution
You already know that static cooling is cheaper, because the device does not use electricity to power the fans, it can also be of a higher energy class. This is one of the most important factors influencing the decision to invest in such a solution.
Unfortunately, it will not work in every situation, e.g. if you need a similar temperature in every place of the device. Due to the natural air circulation, the device can be divided into zones where other types of products are placed depending on their temperature requirements. Keep those that need low temperatures on the lowest shelves in the coolest place.
Precise and fast dynamic cooling
Dynamic cooling is a system in which air circulation in the device is forced by a fan. As a result, the temperature in the chamber is distributed more evenly, and the cooling of the products itself is faster than in the case of static cooling.
The use of fans translates into higher operating costs, but in many cases, forced circulation operation will be necessary. So what are the advantages and disadvantages of this solution?
Advantages and disadvantages of forced circulation
The biggest benefit of having a device that uses a dynamic cooling system is, of course, the speed at which the products are cooled down. Due to the movement of air, the temperature is evenly distributed throughout the chamber, and the differences in temperature will be smaller than in the gravity cycle.
Use this type of cooling to store products that require quick cooling or precise temperature. Fans also become indispensable when the device is frequently opened (e.g. by shop customers).
What to consider when choosing the type of cooling for your business?
When deciding between these two types of cooling, consider these factors:
If you want to use the refrigerators smoothly, make sure not to block the air flow. Do not place the product where there are drainage channels (in the Cargo cabinet they are properly secured, while in refrigerated cabinets it is important not to put the products flat on the bottom of the cabinet). Blocking the channels will mean that the device will not be able to cool the entire chamber equally.
