Service vademecum - cleaning the condenser

Aug 11, 2022

Systematic maintenance work is one of the basic requirement for the smooth operation of refrigeration equipment. One of the most important activities that should be carried out at least once a month is the cleaning of the condenser. Sounds complicated? Nothing could be further from the truth! You can easily tackle this task by following our tips.

What do you need to clean the condenser?

Carrying out a condenser cleaning "operation" on a refrigeration device does not require any special equipment - all you need is an ordinary hoover fitted with a soft brush attachment. Sometimes, if the condenser is very dirty, compressed air can also be used to blow out dust and other impurities from inside.

What to do, step by step

1. The first thing to do is to tur off the device using the main switch and then unplug it from the power supply.

2. The next step is to remove the condenser cover on device with a bottom mounted unit or, in the case of refrigeration with top mounted unit, to set up a ladder to allow convenient access to the condenser located in the upper part of the appliance.

3. Once you have free access to the condenser, assess how dirty it is. If it is not very dusty, it is sufficient to clean it with a hoover.

Do this slowly and carefully by moving the brush attachment from top to bottom along the condenser fins.

4. If you find that there is a lot of dirt and vacuuming is not enough, it is a good idea to use compressed air. This cleaning method is carried out from the engine side of the condenser, using a long tip gun. Put the gun tip gently in the condenser and blow the dirt out. Do this carefully so as not to damage the fins.

5. When cleaning is complete - if the design of the unit requires it - install the condenser cover and turn the unit on using the main switch.

Remember: Condenser cleaning should be carried out at least once a month!

  • When cleaning the condenser, take care not to distort the fins.
  • The unit must not be washed with a jet of water.
  • Cleaning the condenser with a brush is not recommended, as this will cause dust to be stirred up.

Not following the recommendations described above may result in increased electricity consumption, decreased refrigerating capacity of the unit and overheating of the unit, which may consequently lead to malfunction and loss of warranty.
