A few days ago, the Pantone Institute announced that the colour of the year 2023 will be Viva Magenta. It is a beautiful shade of red, with a subtle hint of pink. As it reads on Pantone's website, it is "rooted in nature" and "revels in pure joy". It is meant to symbolise strength and the energy to take new and bold actions. It is also associated with celebrating important moments and will work brilliantly in Christmas decorations!
What does Viva Magenta symbolise?
Viva Magenta is associated with power. It is intense and feisty. It does not accept objections. She communicates her presence very firmly and commands attention. She is also very cheerful and optimistic. She puts you in a good mood. Therefore, it is perfect as a distinctive accent to emphasise a slightly more subdued overall look. Like the icing on the cake, or if you prefer, the final touch.
An interesting idea is to paint one wall in the interior in this colour, and on a smaller scale to choose a few magenta accessories, e.g. curtains, napkins and candles on the tables. Magenta will also look beautiful in festive centerpieces and, of course, on the Christmas tree. It is an affirmation of life and creative power.
What colours go well with Magenta
Viva Magenta is a very expressive colour, clearly standing out from the others, so you need to be careful in choosing an accompaniment for it, so that the colour combination does not give you a headache. Especially if you want to use it in an interior where you spend many hours. What is the best combination of red tending towards pink?
- shades of white, grey and beige will create great sets in which magenta will play the first fiddle in perfect accompaniment.
- shades of brown, graphite, black - an elegant and sophisticated set which, however, needs to be well-proportioned: magenta should appear in a trace, in contrast to the dark background.
- light pink shades - this combination requires a lot of intuition, but the effect can be extraordinary, so it's worth taking a risk!
- shades of yellow and gold - magenta can make a great combination with various shades of yellow and also with gold. It is probably closest to honey and mustard colours, but can also be combined beautifully with sunny or even lemon yellow.
- green, navy blue, orange, violet - these are very daring combinations with the risk of kitsch, but if we choose the right shades and keep restraint, the colours will create a unique and harmonious look.
Inspired by nature
Where in nature can we find the colour of the year 2023? Many flowers bear this colour, such as roses, tulips, peonies, asters and chrysanthemums. Vegetables and fruits such as beetroot, raspberries, cherries, grapes and apples are also in shades of magenta. These, too, can be used to create interesting table decorations, place settings or even an arrangement on your plate. The only limit is your imagination!
